About Nancy
Nancy Watson (LCSW, CADC) is a highly respected psychotherapist and member of the Erika's Lighthouse Professional Advisory Board. With extensive experience as a school counselor at Lake Forest Country Day School and in private practice at Lake Forest Wellness, Nancy specializes in adolescent development and resilience. A monthly donor for over a decade, she bridges the gap between clinical expertise and classroom implementation.Leading the Way with Monthly Giving
Nancy’s commitment to Erika’s Lighthouse began over a decade ago following an inspiring meeting with Peggy Kubert. Recognizing that sustainable impact requires consistent support, Nancy became a monthly donor.
"Supporting the organization as a monthly donor allows me to help ensure that more students have access to education and support around mental health" - Nancy explains.
Bridging the Gap Between Clinical Expertise and the Classroom
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and former school counselor, Nancy Watson understands that mental health challenges don't stay outside the school gates. In her work, she saw how "time and budget constraints" often left schools under-equipped to handle the rising tide of adolescent anxiety and depression. Nancy recognized that for mental health education to be effective, it must be accessible, evidence-based, and integrated into the school's daily fabric.
Empowering Students Through Literacy and Resilience
Nancy’s clinical approach values helping clients understand their emotions and build resilience—goals that align perfectly with the Erika’s Lighthouse mission. By providing students with the "language and confidence" to talk about their feelings, the programs transform the school environment into a "sanctuary of support." Nancy advocates for the Erika's Lighthouse model because it focuses on what good mental health looks like, teaching students to be self-advocates before a crisis occurs.
A Multi-Generation Mission
The impact of Nancy’s advocacy is perhaps most poignantly seen in her own family. Her daughter, inspired by Nancy’s career in social work, now serves as a social worker at Hoffman Estates High School. Together, they have presented on the importance of Erika’s Lighthouse programming, demonstrating how these tools empower both the veteran practitioner and the next generation of educators. As a member of the Professional Advisory Board, Nancy continues to ensure that ELH programs remain at the forefront of depression education and suicide prevention.
